Frequently Asked

Everything Before You Sign Up.

Short answers. The Standards page has the full desk rules.

For Journalists

Who can post a request?

Staff and freelance journalists, producers, podcasters and student journalists working on editorial stories. New journalist accounts are checked by our editors, usually within one business day, before the first request goes out.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Journalists never pay, now or later.

How many pitches will I get?

You choose a pitch cap of 5, 10, 15 or 25 when you post. The request closes when it is reached, or at your deadline, whichever comes first.

Can experts see my email or phone?

No. Experts see your outlet and your request. They pitch through QuoteDesk, and you decide who to contact.

Can I post in French?

Yes. Choose Quebec or Anywhere In Canada and write the request in French. It goes to experts who work in French.

What if nobody suitable pitches?

Email hello@quotedesk.ca and we will look for the source ourselves.

For Experts

Who counts as an expert?

Anyone based in Canada with first-hand knowledge of a beat: accountants, lawyers, clinicians, planners, founders, tradespeople, researchers. You register, pick your beats and province, and add your credentials.

Is it free?

Yes during the beta. Paid plans come later, and the first 100 members keep a founding rate. Nobody is charged without choosing a plan.

How do I hear about new requests?

Set a request alert for your beats and province and you get one email each morning with the new requests. You can also browse the Requests page any time.

What makes a pitch get picked?

Answer the questions in two or three quotable sentences, then one line on who you are and where you are based. Pitches that skip the questions are not forwarded.

Can I pitch on any request?

Only requests open to your province, or to all of Canada. Each request also has a pitch cap; once it is reached the request closes.

Do you use my pitches for anything else?

No. Your pitch goes to the journalist who posted the request and nowhere else. We never sell contact lists or train AI systems on your writing.

Ready When You Are.

Journalists post free. Experts register free during the beta.
