Why QuoteDesk Exists
Canadian Requests Were Getting Buried.
Canadian journalists often need a Canadian voice: someone who can speak to CRA rules, a TFSA, provincial tenancy law or a walk-in clinic in Nova Scotia. The big source platforms are built for American newsrooms, and about one request in 190 on the largest of them comes from a Canadian outlet. Canadian requests get buried, and Canadian experts rarely see the ones meant for them.
QuoteDesk is a request desk for Canada only. Journalists post who they need, the request reaches experts on that beat and province the next morning, and screened pitches come back until the request fills. It is run from Ontario by a small team with a background in media, search and web publishing.
Desk Rules
Seven Rules. Applied To Everyone.
01
Canada Only
Requests come from people working for Canadian audiences. Pitches come from experts based in Canada, and in the province asked for.
02
Every Request Has A Cap
Journalists choose 5 to 25 pitches. At the cap or the deadline, the request closes.
03
Answer The Question Or Do Not Pitch
Pitches that ignore the questions, push a product or paste a bio are dropped before the journalist sees them.
04
Written By A Person
Machine-written pitches are removed, and repeat offenders lose access.
05
No Paid Placement
A paid plan buys faster access and more pitches, never a place in a story. Requests for advertising are removed.
06
Privacy By Default
Experts do not see a journalist's email or phone until the journalist replies. We never sell or share contact lists.
07
Anti-Spam Law, Respected
Every email identifies us and has a one-click unsubscribe, as CASL requires.
Seen Something Off?
